One Coach or Many Grabs? Bus Charter vs Grab and Taxi for Groups in SingaporeLTA-Licensed | UEN 53379842J | Established 2018
Moving 15 or more people and stuck choosing between one coach and a fleet of Grabs or taxis? Here is a clear, honest comparison of cost, comfort and keeping your whole group together.
Is it cheaper to charter one bus or book several Grabs for a group of 15 or more?
For most groups of 15 or more, one coach works out simpler and often cheaper than booking four or five separate cars. A charter is one all-inclusive price that covers the driver, fuel, ERP and parking, with no GST and no surge pricing when demand is high. Coaches start from SGD 85 per trip, and you can compare indicative rates on our pricing page.
Comparing the real cost for a group of 15 or more
One clear price for a coach, versus many separate car fares that add up fast.
One booking, one price
When you charter a coach, you pay one all-inclusive price that already covers the driver, fuel, ERP and parking. With Grab or taxi, every car is its own fare, and for 15 or more people you often need four or five vehicles at the same time.
No surge pricing
Grab and taxi fares can jump during peak hours, rain or big events, right when your whole group needs to move. A charter price is agreed before the trip, so it does not climb at the worst possible moment.
Starts from SGD 85
Coaches start from SGD 85 per trip, with a 45-seater from SGD 100 and a 49-seater from SGD 110. Hourly hire is available from SGD 50 per hour with a four-hour minimum, and there is no GST added on top.
Easy to split the bill
One coach fare is simple to divide across the group, so everyone pays a fair share. Chasing separate receipts from five different Grab rides is far messier when you need to claim or split the costs later.
Taking a group of 30 as the worked example, which is the case our rate card already prices.
| Several Grabs or maxi cabs | One charter coach | |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicles for 30 people | 5 to 7 cars | One 45-seater coach |
| How the price is set | Per car, and it surges at peak hours | One fixed all-inclusive rate from SGD 100 |
| Cost per head for 30 | Moves with surge pricing | Roughly SGD 3 per head or less |
| Arrival | Everyone arrives at different times | One arrival, on one schedule |
| Point of contact | None, each car is its own booking | One driver, one booking, one invoice |
| Break-even | Cheaper below about 15 people | Usually wins from 15 people up |
We do not publish Grab fares, because they change with demand. The coach column is our own published rate.
What one coach costs per person
Our own published rates divided by the number of people on board. The rate is per vehicle, so every extra passenger lowers the cost per head.
| Vehicle | Per trip | 10 people | 20 people | 30 people | 40 people |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23-seater | SGD 85 | SGD 8.50 | SGD 4.25 | n/a | n/a |
| 45-seater | SGD 100 | SGD 10 | SGD 5 | SGD 3.33 | SGD 2.50 |
| 49-seater | SGD 110 | SGD 11 | SGD 5.50 | SGD 3.67 | SGD 2.75 |
How to settle it for your own group
Take your average ride-hailing fare per person and compare it with the figure in your column. A 45-seater carrying 40 people is SGD 2.50 a head. We deliberately do not publish Grab or taxi fares, because they move with demand and surge in peak hour and rain, so use your own recent trips rather than an estimate from us.
All rates all-inclusive of driver, fuel, ERP and parking, with no GST. Below about ten people several cars usually still win. From roughly fifteen people up the coach is normally ahead, and the gap widens with every extra passenger.
Staying together, luggage, and turning up on time
Why one coach often beats a scatter of separate cars for a big group.
Your group stays together
In one coach, all 15 or more of you travel in the same vehicle and arrive at the same time. Spread across several Grabs, cars can get split up, take different routes and reach the venue minutes or even an hour apart.
Room for luggage and gear
A coach has space for suitcases, sports bags, boxes and event equipment that would never fit in a normal car boot. You can choose a 23-seater minibus, a 45-seater coach or a 49-seater coach to match your group and its bags. See the full fleet.
One confirmed booking
With a charter you have a driver booked and confirmed for your exact time, so you are not refreshing an app hoping enough cars appear. This matters most for early airport runs and staff shifts, where a group simply cannot afford to wait around.
Comfortable and safe
Every vehicle is air-conditioned, fitted with seatbelts and driven by a Class 4 or 4A licensed driver holding a Bus Driver's Vocational Licence. That is a calmer, safer ride for a big group than squeezing into a line of separate cars. Learn more about our services.
